One of my Fave sites on the net that I visit every day, is rl.fans.com It's a forum site, every RL club has their own forum for fans to post in, and most have a fan's club site as well, all accessed on the same page. There are also general RL forums etc.
You can pick up rumours and all sorts of news that you would never find out from your clubs main site. Some posts are absolute gems like the one I read this morning from a poster called 'Admiral Hanson'
He was talking about a book called 'Rugby's great split' by Tony Collins, that documents the split between Rugby Onion (oops Union) and the Rugby League. He posted a little piece of it about crowd disturbances around the turn of the last century, and RL punishments to the clubs involved:
Bradford - Jan 1897 - Referee snowballed after the game - No Action taken.
Rochdale - Dec 1897 - 'Rowdy Conduct' by boys - 200 Notices put up / Boys prices raised to 6d.
Hull KR - 'Rowdyism' - Notices Put Up.
Keighley - Dec.1903 - Referee punched by spectator - Ground Closed (3 weeks)
Hull FC - Mar. 1905 - Opponents stoned after the game - Ground Closed (4 Weeks)
(I wonder if we lost!)
Widnes - Sept. 1908 - Referee 'Shouted & Hooted' at - Notices Put Up
Oh for a time when if something 'rowdy' happened you could just put a notice up!

You can just see it cant you? The ref leaving the field under a shower of snowballs lol.
if we got reported today for what they got reported for then, you wouldnt see the game, you would spend an hour and a half reading the notices that had been put up since the last game!!
i snowballed a ref once lol. only thing was i was actually on the field playing, luckily he saw the funny side and rubbed some in my face at the next scrum. there were some refs that actually made it fun and you could have some banter with
There used to be some great refs when I started watching Hull. One you may remember him Phil, Mick Naughton (or was it Norton cant remember) Used to sign autographs on his warm up around the ground, and used to explain his decisions to the Threepenny stand lol.
