Current Bands I love to listen too # 1

Feeder.
We saw them in concert just about a year ago and it was fab. They're one of the few bands where practically everything they have released I have enjoyed.
This is 'Come Back Around'

'Great' Britain

We are supposed to be one of the richest countries in the world, we spend millions on stupid bloody wars and superficial stuff like the Olympic Games, (dont tell me it will generate income, WE will be paying for it for years to come) . We cant look after our own though.
I just read this today on the BBC News website and it made me sad and very angry.

"Forty years on from Cathy Come Home, in which a family forced to sleep rough had their tiny children taken into care, that remains the worst fear of the 130,000 children made homeless through no fault of their own.

At 5.30pm on a freezing winter afternoon, Charlotte, aged 13, her two brothers, sister, and parents sit shivering in a bus shelter on the promenade in Minehead, Devon.

Charlotte's dad, Lee, has just spoken to the housing charity, Shelter, whose lawyer has been threatening to take Minehead council to court if they did not house the family.

He tells the children: "Now, we've only got to hold out for two hours, and then hopefully if the judge makes that decision we're being treated wrongly... we've all got to hold on together."

Super League Fixtures Released.

There isn't many things to look forward too in the close season. Mainly seeing who has the worst new shirt (I think Wigan maybe the contenders there, but then I dont think last seasons run away winners Leeds Rhinos have released theirs yet) and waiting for the new fixture list.
The Fixtures were released at 12 midnight, and our 1st game of the season is at home to Le Catalans. But the fixture we were all looking for was the first 'real' derby game between Hull FC and Hull KR for many years.
So April the 9th it is, we're at home, and I for one cant wait!
The Super League better allocate a damn good ref in the middle, (and thats just in our house!) it may be needed!

Just been having..

... a text chat with my eldest daughter, Michelle. I tend to text a lot to both my daughters, it's just how younger people communicate I guess.
She wanted me to look online to translate 'lion' into Japanese. As I've mentioned before she is at Leeds University studying the language. At the mo she's working her socks off because of a very special incentive. The students with the best marks after the 1st year are sent to Japan on a University swap for the full 2nd year. Those who don't go will stay in Leeds and study as usual. Bit of a difference isn't it? She's a clever lass, as are both my girls. Kirsty is at Hull Uni studying Criminology and Social Policy. I know what you're thinking....they've got their brains off their Dad!
Anyway she has been at a meeting today telling them what will happen if she gets a place to go, and was telling me how exciting it all sounded, and how disappointed she would be if she doesn't get to go. I've always said to them both that all you can do is your best. Sometimes that isn't good enough, but at least you know you have given it your best shot. I think there is a fine line between encouraging your kids and pushing them. If you show an interest in what they are doing, and not just want to know what grades they have, it can work wonders. Shame is, most schools nowadays only seem to be bothered how many GCSE's and A levels they can squeeze out of kids to get more points. Where the not to clever academically can go to hell in a hand cart. Being clever academically isn't the be all and end all by any means!!! Whats wrong with common sense or being good with manual stuff?
Oh and apparently, airliebird in Japanese is Hayatori. Of course that is the translation of 'early bird' Not the play on words 'airliebird' is. (For anyone that doesn't know, the main entrance of Hull FC's old ground was down Airlie Street, hence The Airliebirds)
I don't think Hayatori's Nesuto quite works do you? :)

David Bowie

Well the Queen clip took me down memory lane. The other artist my sis and I used to adore in our teens was David Bowie. He was very popular in Hull particularly as his backing band, The Spiders from Mars all hailed from Hull or the surrounding area.
My favourite album ever is 'Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars' I never tire of it, and like it says on the album itself it is 'To be played at maximum volume'!
Anyway, here is a clip of a live version of the very last track on the album 'Rock n Roll Suicide' Absolutely Ace!

A Queen Day

If there is one band I absolutely adore and I have for about 30 odd years it is Queen. My sister and I where fans right from the beginning, and their 1st album 'Queen'.
Every now and again I have a day where I listen to them. I must admit to loving their earlier albums (up too 'A night at the opera') but thats nit picking as everything they did was just fantastic.
This clip is very scarily 32 years old: 'Now I'm Here'

Good Luck to Great Britain.

Particularly I wish luck to Richard Horne who has been thrown in at half back. He never seems to get an even shot for GB, was once even stuck out on the wing! The other Hull FC player in the team is Gareth Raynor (who has been smashing) For some unknown reason Kirk Yeaman has been dropped, God knows why!
We really haven't the attacking options now Sean Long has left the squad. It shows up a glaring gap in Brian Nobles squad selection, but lets not get onto him shall we? We'd be here all week!
Anyway, Good luck GB for tomorrow!

How did he do that?

I've just seen a video of this Japanese guy doing a really fab magic trick. Have a look and see if you can work out how he did it. I know I couldn't!
Fishy Card Trick

Two things......

....really irritated me yesterday.
As I mentioned in my last post it was my Mother's 70th birthday yesterday. My Brother and Sister, one of my nieces and The Hubby all went in a pub and my Dad got Mam to go in for lunch, not knowing we where all there. (She walked past us all too, didn't have her glasses on!)
Anyway, my Brother brought our attention to this guy, riding one of those laid back trikes, pulling an advertisement for Debenhams department store. Now he may have been a student trying to earn some extra money, but to be honest I was a bit ticked off by it. What a terrible job for anyone to have to take! Whoever thought that one up wants a slap, or at the very least made to do it themselves.
Half the problem with young kids nowadays is they have nothing to look forward too. There's no real apprenticeships about, where you learnt a trade on the job, and if you worked hard you would go up the ladder. Now they go to college and get no real 'hands on' experience, and half know they wont get a job anyway. The Government boasts about all the jobs they have created, but they're all in bloody Macdonalds, and places like that! How can that give people enough money to start on the property ladder, raise a family etc? No wonder that a lot don't give a monkeys, scrounge off the state or turn to crime.

Now the 2nd thing that got me annoyed was the First Direct Bank having the sheer cheek to charge customers £10 on their current accounts every month if they don't keep a balance of at least £1,500! That is an absolute disgrace when you think of the profits they make out of us!
My bank keeps asking me to up grade, and pay £10 a month. Now they tell me that I would get a £50 overdraft, (which I already have) A.A. membership, (I don't drive), and mobile phone insurance (my mobile cost about £50 so I think I could cope if it got pinched). It seems to me banks only want well off people as their customers. While we go back to keeping our money under the bed!
But then of course, we don't have that option now do we? Most of us are paid directly into the bank, so we're snookered!
At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!

Happy Birthday!

She wont see this but I just wanted to wish my Mam Happy Birthday. It's a special one as she is 70.
She has had to put up with a lot with us lot and all our dramas, but I have to say she's usually right about everything! I still get a good telling off too as old as I am.
Its not a good photo I'm afraid, but its the only one of her I have on my PC.

A New look.

As you can see I've had a bit of a mess about and have changed the look of my blog. I thought it fitted in better with the Hull FC theme.
Let me know what you think, thats both of my loyal readers. ( I'll bet a weeks wages that one person will hate it! ) ;o)

A bit of a thumping....

.... to say the least. NZ stuffed GB 34 - 4 in Wellington this morning. I was up early to watch the game and it was a very disappointing performance from GB after the heroics of last weekend.
The Kiwis where on fire today, everything they tried came off for them, and thoroughly deserved their win.
Now we have to beat the Aussies next Saturday, which is a massive task. I think you would have to seriously hit the history books before you'd find GB winning two consecutive games against the Aussies!

Spot the Difference!

Desperate Dan?

Willie Mason?

Saturday, November 04, 2006

I dare you not to laugh!

That woke me up!

We got up early (for a Saturday anyway) to watch Australia v GB. The Aussies of course, as cocky as ever, thought they could just turn up for the win. Their prop Willie Mason, well, how he didn't get sent off was a mystery to me. He decked Stuart Fielden, then took out Sean Long with an elbow the lug.
Anyway, we got the result 23-12 and well deserved too, and the icing on the cake was one of my lads going over for the final score.
Here's Gareth Raynor going over for said try:

Whaaheyyyy!! Get in Gazza!! :) :) :)

Lets have some sillyness shall we?

I thought I'd have a go at posting a video from You Tube on here. Apparently its easy, so as my first presentation heres something wonderfully daft:

You have to laugh.

Well, the (not so at the moment) Mighty Whites went down to another defeat, loosing 4-1 at Preston.
The Hubby and I listened to the commentary on Radio Leeds as per normal, and although the game wasn't fun to listen too, a couple of comments afterwards made us laugh.
After the game as manager Dennis Wise, and coach Gus Poyet walked past the commentary box, game summariser Eddie (living legend) Gray mused: 'what could be going through their minds now?'. Commentator Adam Pope answered 'Help?'
In the phone in afterwards a fan commented that ' that goalie is more scared of crosses than Jesus' Ok, a bit in bad taste there, but we laughed!
