Who's he?
Inspired by the Tony Yeboah goal on White Rose Boys blog. I looked up this.....maybe the best goal I've ever seen.
Eddie Gray demolishes the Burnley defence. Bliss isn't the word my friends :)

A Selfish Mother.

I'm a lucky woman, I have 2 lovely daughters. Michelle when I was about 25 and Kirsty at 27. I know with the improvements in medical care, women can have babies later. I have a couple of friends who didn't start a family till they were over 30. My own sister had a baby at 42. (Albeit it was a bit of a surprise!) I was classed as an old first time Mother when I was pregnant with Michelle. That was 23 years ago......
Today I see on the news a Spanish lady who has given birth to twin boys at an age of 67!!
To me it is the height of selfishness. There is a good chance this woman wont see her boys start school! Who will look after the little ones then? She's a single parent.
I think IVF is a marvellous thing for women who cannot get pregnant naturally. To want a child can be a very strong instinct, and it must be awful when you can't conceive.
Its all very clever that a lady of that age can give birth, but just because it CAN be done, doesn't mean it is RIGHT.

You couldn't make it up part deux:

From the Daily Express online:

Prescriptions free... if you live in Wales
26/01/07
By Gabriel Milland, Political Correspondent
Anger was growing last night over Britain’s two-tier health service after prescription charges were abolished in Wales. Anyone registered with a Welsh GP will get their drugs and medical supplies free from April 1st, but patients in England and Scotland will continue to be charged £6.65 for each item.....
Full article here

The government keep saying how they want the Union to stay together, this isn't going to help is it? Who's going to end up paying for this?? No offence to our cousins in Scotland and Wales, but Scotland already has more money spent on them per person than the English do. I'm proud enough to have both my daughters at University. They have had to take out loans to finance their education. If they lived in Scotland they wouldn't have too. Now Wales are getting free prescriptions.
When are the English going to get a bit of a perk? Council elections are coming up in the next couple of months. Aren't New Labour bothered about buying our votes??
Oooops, better not be controversial. The sooner the rugby season starts the better, too many things recently are pi**ing me off!

You couldn't make it up!

For my post today I'm just going to use a news article from the Sky News web site. This country is really going to 'Hell in a handcart', as the great Mike Dickin used to say.

Judge Triggers Prison Row

Updated: 18:42, Thursday January 25, 2007

A judge has refused to send an internet paedophile to jail after saying he would follow the Government's request to jail only serious offenders.

Derek Williams was given a six-month jail sentence for downloading child pornography.

Judge John Rogers QC said he had to bear in mind "the current sentencing climate".

Home Secretary John Reid wrote this week to judges and magistrates asking them to jail only serious and persistent offenders because of a shortage of prison places.

Mold Crown Court heard that Williams, 46, would only receive a suspended jail term because the judge had to "bear in mind" the Home Secretary's letter.

Sentencing Williams, of Penygwdwn, Blaenau Ffestiniog, to a six-month sentence, suspended for two years, Mr Rogers said there were also mitigating factors in the case.

Jails in England and Wales are at bursting point, with about 80,000 inmates. Hundreds are being housed overnight in police stations and court cells because there is no room in jails.

Shadow home secretary David Davis said: "If true, then we now have a situation where sentences are being dictated by the prison capacity and not the severity of the crime.

"It looks like the consequences of the Government's failure to address the lack of prison places is coming home to roost."

Mr Reid revealed an RAF camp in the north of England is to be used to house convicts, and that he is also in negotiations over the purchase of two prison ships.

He said that construction had started on prefab units to go into a prison in the Merseyside.

I'm lost for bloody words myself.

Mon Capitaine!

Hull FC have announced that Forward Lee Radford will be the new Captain for 2007, taking over from the great Richard Swain.
I think its a good choice, and the first Hull born Captain for some years.
Lets hope he gets some silver wear in his hands this season!! :)

Just a comment...

Just a comment about the story in the press today about a Muslim father that is taking legal action against his daughters school as she is not allowed to wear the Niqab (that's the full face veil) His daughter is 12 years of age.
Now I'm not a church goer, and my beliefs are nether here nor there. I do respect people who go down the religious path, so my views are nothing to do with any sort of discrimination of that kind.
The child's Father says that it infringes on his daughters human rights, that she is not allowed to wear the veil
Now if you ask me her having to wear that damn thing does just that! The right for a little girl (because that's what she is, a bairn) to feel the sun and fresh air on her face?
I have no problem with women covering their hair and legs etc, or someone of the Sikh religion wearing a turban.
But the veil to me smacks of the suppression of women, and nothing to do with worshipping God!

Comfort in Sound.

As I have mentioned in earlier posts my favourite current band are Feeder, and I make no apologies for posting another of their videos.
I think many people can connect with the mood behind this track, 'Comfort in Sound' I know if I'm down I cheer myself up with some music, and if I'm in a good mood I listen to music! :)
Anyway, here's Feeder:

A bit of a rant!

What is it with all these 'Celebrity' programmes on TV?? Off the top of my head (and no, I don't watch 'em) there's 'Celebrity Big Brother', 'Soapstar Superstar', 'Celebrity Who wants to be a millionaire', 'Strictly come dancing', 'Celebrities on Ice', there was one on Sky where celebs learned to do circus acts, 'I'm a celebrity, get me out of here' and many more. Now I have this theory that there are some rather lazy, but I bet well paid, TV executives, who sit in their offices thinking up programmes to inflict on the great unwashed. They have one hit and they recycle it ad infinitum!
Now to expand the subject a bit, I was watching Sky News today, and in a world where we are at war, untold people are being killed, and there's a good case to be made that the U.S. and U.K. are both led by warmongering nutters, THREE of the top stories where celebrity based. The Brits did rather well at the Golden Globe awards, which is fair enough I suppose. But do we really want to know about Naomi Campbell being up at court for throwing a phone at her maids head?? (incidentally if I'd have been the maid, she'd have eaten said phone!)
The 3rd story was about the very pretty Indian actress Shilpa Shetty being bullied in the Celebrity Big Brother house, by some of the other women in there. I'm sure its not very nice for her, but its hardly headline news is it?
Now there is this sort of conspiracy theory, that the masses are being 'dumbed down' on purpose, so we don't notice mostly what our governments are up too.
With folk watching this stuff day in day out, who can say it isn't true!

Thank God!

The lads play tomorrow. Albeit a friendly against the mighty Batley Bulldogs, but it means the season isn't too far away. It has seemed ages since the Grand Final.
The days after Christmas always seem very quiet and boring. I think maybe its all the rushing about that has to be done at the time. Hence I don't really have anything to post about to be honest. I'm sure I'll be back in the groove soon though!

First post of the New Year.

Well 2007 is here, Christmas is over for another year (thank God) I've been laid up with a bad cold for the best part of a week, and then had to do some overtime at work so just haven't had the chance to post on here.
I had a nice quiet Christmas, if you don't mention being at work bit that is! I've eaten far too much chocolate, but got some nice pressies.

The Hubby got me a new mobile. I must admit to dropping a few hints. I saw this very girly phone made by BenQ-Seimens. Now I know I like a lot of blokey things like Rugby etc, but I like girly stuff too. With this phone, you can press a button and the screen becomes a mirror! Handy stuff believe me!

Kirsty painted me a picture as a present. I was pretty chuffed with it. She's always loved art, and a pal left her some oil paints etc when he went to Edinburgh University to study. I took a picture of it with my phone, it doesn't do it justice really but here it is.
