Cookie clears off!

Things came to a head today when Paul Cooke handed in his resignation to Hull FC. With amazing speed it was announced a couple of hours later that he had signed for Rovers.
Now the nub of all this is Cookies contract with Hull FC. By all accounts he signed an extension to finish in 2008. Now certain parts of the media say this contract went unsigned. (amazing I know) But really that's a smokescreen. As I understand it, even if you haven't signed a contract if you continue in your employment under the terms of the contract, and of course continue getting payments, the contract stands.
That is Hull FC's position that the contract is legally binding. (they haven't said whether is was signed or not of course, (which is amazing in itself!) but if balls-ups where an Olympic sport, guess who'd win the Gold??
Hull KR say they offered Cookie a contract on the understanding he was a free agent, the Rugby Football League say he isn't so the move has been blocked.
Hopefully this will be sorted out around a table and not the courts.
If it wasn't for the fact that the miserable sod would have to be paid, I'd send him to the back of beyond on loan for the rest of his contract. We all know he wanted to play for Rovers, the team he supports, in the future, but to clear off like this in the middle of the season, letting down the fans and the club who stood by him when he had some court appearances (incidentally sorting a loan for his legal fees) is a downright disgrace.
I know he went over for the winning try in the 2005 cup final and has served us well, but this was too much.
He can sod off as far as I'm concerned, but Rovers should stump up a fee!
No player is bigger than the club, but players turn up from time to time that think they are.
WRONG!
Keeping the Faith even if some want to kick us in the teeth!

P.S. Get on that bloody plane Shifty!

In sport there are many things players shouldn't do and its my opinion one of those is leave to go to your biggest rivals. Its been done many times in soccer Liverpool to Everton, Real Madrid to Barcelona, AC TO Inter, Rangers to Celtic, Leeds to Red Vermin, etc and every time its a massive slap in the face to the fans who live and breath their club. Lets face it the players move on but to the fans its usually a lifetime commitment, thats what these mercenaries don't understand.
I know Cooke say's he is a lifelong Rovers fan but if thats so he should never have joined Hull in the first place.

There isn't a Hull FC fan I know that would have begrudged him going to Rovers... at the end of the season when his contract expired , but to do it like this in the middle of the season is unforgivable, and believe me he wont be. His name will be mud for a very long time.

i dont disagree with anything youve written here, Paul Cooke is trouble, trouble follows him around and trouble finds him. this is just the latest proof of that, not only is he trouble in training, in the changing room and off the pitch whilst in the pub or punching women, he has now shown that he is trouble by kicking in the teeth the team that has stood by him through a lot to come across the city to us in a way that is just unbelievable, yes i agree if his contract is unsigned the dull board need to take a long look at themselves and if the past capers of both boards are anything to go by then this olympic final would be a neck and neck race.

Well he does seem to have the knack of rubbing folk up the wrong way. I've spoke about his spats with Radders and you said Kingy too. You can add your own Jason Netherton to the list and I heard tonight Motu Tony! From what I hear about Motu is he is a pussycat! Gawd knows what went on there.
Our board have been incompetent and yours have tried a cheap (Well expensive in the end) publicity stunt. Cookie in the mean time, can go boil his head!

I agree with most things you say, except the one about our board trying a cheap publicity stunt, if dulls board have cocked up i think we are just trying to take advantage of the fact, i just wish your board had been a little more thorough then we might not be letting ourselves in for major trouble, mystic phil can see this coming.

To be honest you know, the finger just points at Cooke, Rovers jumped at him when he said he was free (well I think that's what is supposed to of happened, surely there wasn't an illegal approach!)
I don't know if you saw the interview with Stevie Prescott on Sky, God bless him, he's a prince among men, and someone like that shows up Cooke for what he is...... a louse.
Good luck to Rovers, they'll need it!

seems to me the only person to blame here as you say is cooke, how long has he known his contract wasnt signed? if it has been since the actual day it was offered to him then why has he never mentioned it, why has he kept it all quiet til he needs to get away.
maybe he isnt as thick as he sounds, acts, behaves, and is.

Well I think its his Dad/agent that seems to be the brains behind it all, he needed cash, and that's it in a nutshell. The thing what a lot of Rovers fans have forgotten is how he is going to fit into the team. Ok play him at halfback with Webbo, but they're both similar players. Who is going to take on the line? Cookie hardly ever does. Also his trademark cut out pass has evolved over the years, and no offence meant, but we have really top class wingmen at the FC that would get into any side. It will take some time for them to get used to it.
From our point of view we have built our play around Cookes style, I'm hoping we can change. Hopefully it will open us out a bit, not everything going through him.
